It has been a long hiatus since I posted in earnest. In that time I've reflected on the whys and whats of blogging, organization, change, and even writing itself. But in truth the reason I've been away is because life swept me away for a while - because doing all this work WORKS.
When I jumped into this project of "cleaning house", I was like an obsessed Ping-Pong ball, bouncing from task to task. If our life wasn't perfect, surely it was because our home wasn't perfect, and at least I could fix our home after all! I moved furniture, I sorted things, I got rid of clutter, I rearranged items, I cleaned, I applied feng shui cures. I did, did, did, did, did... so much that trying to write about it all just didn't fit into my day while taking care of an infant and preschooler, and much of it didn't make here to share.
And one day into that whirlwind of unexamined action came enough space that I was able to see with greater clarity than before. I observed myself - not who I was trying to become, but just what I was doing and how it felt - and I realized that maybe these were warning signs and action needed to be taken. Too many "yeses" on the checklist of PPD/PPA - not all and not always, but they were there, and it warranted attention and exploration. And so began an abrupt shift to heal those parts of me and our family and our lives together to bring things closer to how I want to live.
Things are better now. There's more sleep, we're all better nourished (especially our brains), we've strengthened our support network, and I have tools for those challenging parts of the day. Lordy lou, those times still come up, but they are now moments rather than the day! :)
I really do feel that our homes reflect back to us what is (or isn't) going on in our lives. And when we are living unconsciously, without reflection, then we get taken by surprise by the traps we have been laying for ourselves. By clearing space in our homes, we clear space in our minds and our outlook. As you sit on the couch or walk to the bathroom, your eyes glide over things which each have a story to tell. Sometimes they yell and sometimes they whisper, but visually we store memories and to-do lists, fears and barriers, hopes and dreams, beliefs and choices in everything in our homes.
That's why I'm back again. I want to talk about how to go through the hard work of making real change in our homes to support our lives, and I want to puzzle through how astrology helps make sense of why and provides direction for looking deeper into our potential.
Thanks again for being here.
- MS;)
