Big Week for the Family - the Kids Move Rooms

The time has come for our infant to get his own room, so my older child has to vacate the nursery... The big selling point for her is her Big Girl Bed, though the move has brought more fears of the dark to the fore again. I have "mom emotions" over the change since she'll be farther from our room, but there is added nervous energy in me because... my stuff suddenly has no home!

Here we are, several weeks into my decluttering project, and I've been working to keep our common areas tidier and without clutter. But now there's a bunch of items that have been hiding away that suddenly need attention! I've been putting off clearing out my old home office (even after I moved it downstairs to be closer to the kids), and now it is suddenly in my face - old office materials and organizers, supply boxes... and then the closet which had been the off-season storage for the entire family, now needing to be cleared out...!! Yikes!

Blessing In Disguise

This has given us a way to clear out some stagnating clutter. My daughter and I went through some of her toys to rotate out some that she wasn't using anymore. From going through some of the clothes in the off-season closet, a third of it can go out the door now; we don't need it any more.

Sharing Space with Family

Our homes are shared worlds - when we clean and clear clutter, it affects not only us but the rest of the family too. My son is progressively impatient with being in his swing... is he just outgrowing it, or is he more aware of the negative vibrations caused by his swing sitting next to my bins of "active" stuff that is becoming increasingly stagnant? Anyone walking though either of our main hallways has to walk through a tunnel of stuff to one side or another... headaches anyone?

When we first moved things around, we had several tough days with the kids. Our son has been having weird sleep patterns. Our daughter was fighting naps. After a few days and progressively working on the junk, they are doing better, but I've got a tightness in my shoulders, jaw, and neck that I can't seem to shake. More on that later!

What change in your house shook things up?
